In the mirror, they gaze with adoration At the reflection of their own perfection The narcissist, self-absorbed and consumed With their own image, their own assumed Importance in the grand scheme of things Unable to see beyond their own fleeting wings They flutter from person to person Seeking admiration like a thirsting person But never truly connecting, never truly caring For anyone but themselves, always comparing Others to their own perceived greatness Unable to see the depth of their own emptiness Their relationships are shallow and fleeting Like ripples on a pond, quickly retreating They use others as mere reflections Of their own perceived perfections But never truly seeing the beauty In the souls of those they deem unworthy Their seeds of love fall on barren ground Unable to take root, unable to be found For the narcissist doesn't know How to cultivate and make relationships grow They wither and die in the harsh light Of the narcissist's all-consuming self-right So they float through life like a ship adrift Never truly knowing the gift Of a genuine connection, a true bond For they are forever trapped in their own pond Of self-absorption and misguided pride Unable to see the beauty outside But perhaps one day they'll wake up And see the emptiness in their own cup They'll learn to reach out and truly see The beauty in others, the possibility Of a deeper, more meaningful connection One that goes beyond mere reflection And in that moment of self-realization The narcissist will find true liberation From the prison of their own making And learn the joy of truly giving and taking In a healthy, loving relationship Built on trust, respect, and mutual worship.
