Chameleon Con

A chameleon's guise, they wear so well, A mask of charm, a heart that's cold as hell. One day, a loving touch, a gentle tone, The next, a venomous strike, a heart of stone. How could they switch, so suddenly and bright? From loving words to bitter, cruel delight. It's as if they flipped a switch, and changed their pace, Leaving you bewildered, lost in a toxic space. Their eyes, once bright with love, now cold and grey, Their words, once sweet, now laced with venom's sway. Their touch, once gentle, now a grasping hold, A suffocating grip, that leaves you old. They claim they're innocent, that you're to blame, For their sudden change, their love's sudden shame. But deep inside, you know the truth, so clear, A narcissist's game, a heart that's void of fear. They play with emotions, like a puppeteer's strings, Pulling and tugging, as they watch you sing. Their love, a mere illusion, a fleeting high, A selfish desire, that leaves you wondering why. How could they switch, so overnight, so fast? A master of manipulation, a heart that's aghast. They're a chameleon, a shape-shifter, indeed, A narcissist's game, a heart that's all they need.
